The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has placed a ban on low volume alcohol across the country.

Kogi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Pharmacist Benu Mawo Philip who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja said the outright ban which will take effect   from 19th of December is to put an end to production and sales of alcoholic bitters below  two hundred mils in sachets and bottles.

He maintained that the decision is to curb the abuse of the products based on financial implications and portability.

The coordinator said the ban was to take effect last year but was suspended due to pressure from manufacturer  and other stakeholders.

He maintained that the agency as a public health institution will continue to balance between regulations and health in order to safeguard the health of Nigerians.

Mr Philip said the decision will also go a long way to curb the abuse of the product especially by students and young stars who can easily hide them in their pockets to evade the watchful eyes of their parents and teachers.

The coordinator who emphasized that the Director General of the Agency, Professor Mojoshola Adeyeye has directed total mop up of the products as from January 2026 advised parents, stakeholders including  NYSC group, NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club, Catch Them Young to  also assist in the advocacy.
