Head Teachers and Principals urged to be self evaluate to ensure quality teaching and learning



Participants at the training workshop for Head Teachers and Principals of Schools in the State have been urged to use the knowledge acquired  during the training to improve on the teaching and learning process in the state.


The Executive Chairman of the kogi State Universal Basic Education Board,Mallam Abdulrazaq Mohammed Yusuf made the remarks in a message to the four-days training programme in Lokoja.



The Executive Chairman who was represented by the Board Secretary, Alhaji Salisu Adakeke applauded governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for given education top priority in his administration.


Mallam Abdulrazaq noted that the present administration under Governor Ododo has continually demonstrated passionately in the payment of counterpart contributions to enable the state benefit maximally in education sector.



He assured that the Commission would not fail in it assignment urged the participants to utilize the  knowledge effective for school evaluation which are the haulmark to improve on teaching and learning to strengthening the school system.


According to him, the workshop was about self-evaluation in the management of schools in the state which is the first step  and also provide new techniques first before   evaluate the services of new tools and  new techniques for schools.


He also  commended the government for the prompt payment of teachers salary at as when due adding that these has gone along way for teachers to seat up in their day to day activities.





Mallam Abdulrazaq disclosed that the participants are carefully selected from the three Senatorial Districts among thousands in schools across the state in the Universal Basic Board, Primary Schools and that of Junior Secondary Schools. 


Earlier, the representative of the Universal Basic Education Commission,F.C.T Abuja, Doctor Julius Adedoja described the training as crucial in view of it's important  in improving the school activities . 


"His words"This training is purely for teachers and principals selected from  Quality Assurance encompasses school self-evaluation and external evaluation, which we call old school evaluation. 


Doctor Adedoja explained that the Commission  has be able to achieve the objective of carrying out the inspection in the school Because inspection focuses on the employee, only on teacher  Quality Assurance evaluation, it focuses on learners, said  that the commission would not relent in it efforts in performing their official responsibility. 



According to him,form that's supposed to be filled by the Head Teacher and Principals by themselves to self-evaluate, they don't have knowledge or skills to fill that form. So it affects the validity and reliability of the evaluation and the reporting. 




Speaking, the Director Quality Assurance M&E , Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board ,Comrade  Usman Aliu Asibita said the workshop would afford the opportunity for Head Teachers to ensure quality at  it basic education level, adding that these can be achieved through effective school evaluation.


Comrade Asibita maintained that it would also helps in making value judgement about the quality of teaching and learning through daily and follow up evaluations.



The Director Quality Assurance expressed the hope that teachers and other critical Stakeholders' would work together in collaborative atmosphere and creating more conductive environment for teaching and learning.


He disclosed that they are carefully selected from the commission to impact the knowledge acquired from workshop for their pupils .


One of the participants, Mr Agagwu James from  Ankpa Local Government Area and Idris Aliu Yahaya from kogi local government Area who spokes with newsmen commended the state government and Board for the initiative in organising the workshop which they described as a good outing for teachers and principals.
