Foundation Donates House to Widow, Urges Wealthy Nigerians to Support Vulnerable Families

A non-governmental organisation,  The My People First Foundation has donated a room-and-parlour self-contained house to an octogenarian widow, Mama Mariyamo Audu Azuo, in Inata Community, Obeiba, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. The donation, the second by the foundation within two months, was made during a commissioning and handover ceremony in the community on Saturday. Founder of the foundation, Hajiya Aishat Oyiza Omade, said the gesture was in fulfilment of a promise she made during her first outreach to provide shelter for at least four widows before the end of the year. Hajiya Omade, who is also the State Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Kogi State Social Investment Programme Agency (KOSSIPA), said she was delighted to put smiles on the faces of people who may never be able to repay her kindness.  She added that she was only replicating how God used total strangers to change her own story. The Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kogi State Chapter, Alhaji Raji Musa says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided necessary farm inputs to farmers in Kogi State under the Renew Hope Agenda for improved food production. Alhaji Musa stated this in an interview with our Reporter in Lokoja. He explained that the gesture will reduce the cost of production and  enable farmers to have access to direct inputs that will improve their productivity.  He said the President has assured the association of a guaranteed minimum price, saying whatever they produce would be sellable across the country. The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Kogi State Chapter, has called on the Kogi State Government to urgently restore the suspended 27.5 per cent Teachers' Special Allowance and embark on immediate recruitment of qualified teachers.  At a press briefing in Lokoja on Thursday, the union also raised alarm over rising attacks on schools, warning that the safety of teachers and students is being threatened and that urgent government action is needed to protect learning environments across the state. Presenting the communiqué after the State Executive Council meeting, State Chairman Comrade Emejeh Ogwu Sunday said the 27.5 per cent Teachers' Special Allowance was agreed upon through a valid Collective Bargaining Agreement to recognize the unique demands of teaching.   "Its restoration will greatly improve teachers' morale and further demonstrate Government's commitment to quality education," the union stated.  ASUSS warned that continued denial of t...

The Kogi State House of Assembly has commended the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, for his role in the Barefoot Renewable Energy College's establishment at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara. The assembly gave the commendation in a resolution reached on Wednesday following a motion moved by Dr Suleiman Abdulrazak. Abdulrazak told the House that the commendation was in recognition of Abdullahi's contributions to the development of the college in Kogi.  He described the ECN boss as a leader whose efforts had benefited the state and the country.
