  The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock Development, has organized a statewide stakeholders' engagement meeting to address farmer-herder conflict in the state.  The meeting, themed "Unlocking the Economic Potential of Peaceful Coexistence Between Farmers and Herders in Kogi State," brought together key stakeholders to discuss ways to promote peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in the state.  Speaking at the meeting at Government House Lokoja, the Honorable Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr Olufemi Bolarin, emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing the conflict. Ajaokuta Economic City to Begin Operation in 2026 - Gov. Ododo

  Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has said the Ajaokuta Economic City proposed to host the Kogi-Hunan Free Trade Zone will begin operations this year, with the groundbreaking of the project expected in the second quarter of 2026. Governor Ododo made this known when he led a delegation of state officials to receive the Declaration Certificate designating the Ajaokuta Economic City as a Free Trade Zone from the management of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).  The certificate was presented at the headquarters of the NEPZA in Abuja by its Managing Director, Olufemi Ogunyemi, following the Federal Government’s approval of the designation. The approval followed earlier authorisation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in November 2025 for the establishment of the 4,000-hectare Ajaokuta Economic City in Kogi State. The Kogi Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, has emphasized the importance of dignity and respect in its operations, with facilitators stressing the need to protect vulnerable groups from gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual exploitation. Speaking at a sensitization workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Prohibition of Sexual Exploitation Abuse (PSEA), on Wednesday in Lokoja, the State Project Coordinator (SPC), Mr Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza Otaru, urged participants to adopt a "humane depth" in their work. Kogi VCDP Empowers 20 Youths on Fabrication Training with Starter Packs

  No fewer than 20:youths have graduated from a training programme on Fabrication and Maintenance of Agriculture Equipment in Kogi State. The training was organised by the Federal Government of Nigeria/International Fund for Agricultural Development (FGN/IFAD) Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP-AF) in partnership with Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI). The Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon.   The Kogi State Ministry of Health's Neglected Tropical Disease (NTDs) Programme, in collaboration with Sightsavers, has launched a two-day planning meeting for the 2025 Mass Administration of Medicines (MAM) for Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) in the state's 21 Local Government Areas. The State's Commissioner for Health, Dr Adeiza Abdulazeez, who declared the meeting open on Monday in Lokoja, reaffirmed State Government's commitment to eliminating river blindness in the state.   The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience (Kogi L-PRES) Project, in collaboration with Kogi Ministry of Livestock Development, has launched a mass vaccination exercise against Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs).  During the Stakeholders' Engagement meeting  in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr Olufemi Bolarin, said the initiative aims to safeguard animal health, strengthen livestock productivity, and enhance food security in the state. The meeting brought together stakeholders, including farmers, veterinarians, animal scientists, traditional rulers, security agencies and others, to discuss strategies for the vaccination drive. The Commissioner urged farmers, cattle breeders, and pastoralists to support the vaccination drive being administered freely to the livestock in the state.
