Kogi First Lady Pledges Stronger Support for Women, Children, Vulnerable Groups
Kogi State First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed her commitment to uplifting the lives of women, children, and other vulnerable groups across the state.
Mrs Ododo stated this while addressing a delegation of market women from the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State at her office in Lokoja.
She pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of women and mitigating the challenges they face.
She expressed her openness to partnerships and consultations but also cautioned women coordinators and community representatives against exploiting or shortchanging their members, urging transparency and fairness in all engagements.
Addressing growing concerns around moral decay among young girls, the First Lady emphasized the vital role of mothers in raising disciplined and responsible children.
She called for increased parental involvement, vigilance, and guidance to steer children away from social vices.
In a separate meeting with Executives of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Mrs Ododo commended their ongoing efforts in tackling health challenges affecting women and children.
She advocates stronger collaboration between the association and her office to address the rising menace of drug abuse among youths in the state.
Highlighting the urgency of the issue, she stressed that a multi-stakeholder approach has become imperative, as substance abuse continues to undermine societal progress despite various government interventions.
Mrs. Ododo also revealed plans to launch her upcoming pet project, which she said would prioritize women and children's health, education, and economic empowerment.
She expressed optimism that the initiative would bring impactful and lasting change to communities and families in the state.
The First Lady also received a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders and women leaders from Lokoja Local Government Area led by the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya Farouk.
She thanked the group for their show of solidarity and encouraged women leaders within the APC to make deliberate efforts to unify all women and affiliated groups under the party’s umbrella, fostering collective progress.
In a further demonstration of inclusivity, Mrs. Ododo hosted several Persons With Disabilities(PWDs), where she donated a stardard wheelchair to physically challenged Hannah Maaji, provided a cash gift to Umoru Ibrahim Daniel, and distributed food items to various individuals and groups to support their livelihood.
