Governor Ododo praised for resuming payment of leave bonuses.

 


Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has been praised for resuming the payment of leave bonuses to civil servants.


Kogi State Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASSUS), Comrade Emejeh Sunday Ogwu gave the commendation in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja.


Comrade Ogwu who described Governor Ododo as a man with milk of human kindness noted that the gesture was a pleasant relief to thousands of workers who are struggling with economic realities after subsidy removal.


He however appealed to the state government to look inward and address the backlog of leave bonus affecting two third members of the union who kept hoping that their situation will be attended to.


The Unionist said the state can definitely boast of well experienced and qualify teachers across boards and expressed hope for periodic recruitment to fill the vacuum created by deaths, retirement and other situations.


On the recent celebration of the World Teachers Day, Comrade Ogwu who described the event as a moment to deliberate on fundamental issues to move global education forward, noted that Nigeria as nation must keep up  in the aspect of modern instructional facilities, review of curriculum to measure up to societal demands and urgent address of infrastructural deficits in secondary schools particularly in rural settlements.


The Unionist also appealed for approval of one billion Naira motor cycle loan to ease transportation problems in remote settlement emphasizing that the union has constituted a committee for effective management of the fund to make functional for the benefits of the lenders and members of the Union.
