Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna (IJN) Presents Scorecard, Consults for 2027 Re-election Bid
The Member representing Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna (IJN), on Thursday engaged key stakeholders of Bassa Local Government Area in a consultative meeting where he presented his scorecard after two and a half years in office and formally declared his intention to seek re-election in the 2027 general elections.
The event, held at the Bassa LGA Secretariat in Oguma, witnessed an impressive turnout of party faithful, community leaders, and government officials. Among those in attendance were the Bassa LGA Chairman, Hon. Theophilus Adams; the Kogi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Muhammad Muktar; political appointees at both state and local levels; councillors from the ten wards of the LGA; as well as APC stakeholders, youth groups, and women representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Rt. Hon. Haruna outlined his legislative strides and constituency achievements, reaffirming his commitment to improving the living standards of his constituents. He noted that his decision to seek re-election was driven by the need to consolidate on ongoing projects and expand developmental efforts across the constituency.
“I am motivated to seek re-election so as to build on the foundation we have laid and to continue delivering meaningful dividends of democracy to our people,” he stated, while appealing for sustained support and cooperation from stakeholders.
As part of the visit, the lawmaker paid a courtesy call to the palace of His Royal Highness, the Aguma of Bassa, alongside other traditional rulers, where he received royal blessings and words of encouragement.
In their separate remarks, Hon. Theophilus Adams and other speakers commended Rt. Hon. Haruna for what they described as a commendable performance in office, expressing confidence in his leadership and endorsing his 2027 re-election bid.
Also speaking, the APC Zonal Chairman for Kogi East, Hon. Ogwu Alhassan, described the engagement as both a presentation of scorecard and a broad-based consultation with the people. He urged party members to remain loyal and supportive, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to party rules and guidelines.
The Youth Leader of the LGA, Hon. Shenemi, while appreciating the lawmaker’s efforts, highlighted pressing challenges facing the people, particularly the need for employment opportunities, youth empowerment programmes, and urgent intervention on the deplorable condition of the Dekina–Bassa road. He appealed to the lawmaker to prioritize these concerns.
Responding, Rt. Hon. Haruna thanked the people of Bassa LGA for the confidence reposed in him and assured that all concerns raised would be given due attention. He reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges facing the constituency and improving the welfare of the people.
He further urged constituents to remain steadfast in their support, noting that “the reward for hard work is more work.”
The meeting featured an interactive session where stakeholders expressed their views and reaffirmed their confidence in his leadership. A major highlight of the engagement was the formal presentation of his scorecard covering the period under review.
