THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS (ASUSS), KOGI STATE CHAPTER CONDEMNS THE RECENT ATTACK ON SCHOOLS IN OYO STATE:

Chairman,  Kogi State Chapter of Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Comrade Emejeh  Sunday Ogwu has called on States and Federal Government to put necessary machineries in place to forestall bandits attacks on schools in the country.

Comrade Emejeh made the call in Lokoja while speaking with newsmen on the recent attacks on teachers and students in the Oriire Area of Oyo state.

He Stated that ASUSS, Kogi State Chapter is deeply alarmed and utterly appalled by the brazen abduction of students and teachers  describing it as a  heinous act which represents a direct assault on the sanctity of our educational institutions and a flagrant violation of the fundamental human rights of our children and educators.

Comrade Emejeh explained that the recurring incidents of insecurity targeting schools are not only traumatic for the immediate victims and their families but also threatens to erode the foundation of our society by instilling fear in the hearts of those striving to acquire and impart knowledge.

No child should have to fear for their life while seeking an education, and no teacher should be targeted for committing to the development of our nation’s future, explaining that education must remain a safe haven.

“We demand a proactive rather than a reactive approach to school security, we call on the authorities to implement immediate protective measures for all schools in vulnerable areas, including the deployment of security patrols and the strengthening of community-based intelligence networks”.

As Teachers, members of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Kogi State Chapter stand in solidarity with our colleagues in Oyo State.

Our thoughts and supplication are with the families of the victims during this harrowing time.

We commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives and sincerely pray for the safe return of those still in captivity.

The ASUSS boss urged teachers not to be discouraged in the discharge of their official duties despite the daunting security situation, praying to God  to bring an end to the security challenges bedeviling the country.

He concluded by  urging people to be security conscious at all times  and reports any suspicious threats to the appropriate quarters.
