A VICTORY FOR EXCELLENCE: DUMSAA CONGRATULATES PROF. EJIROGHENE MARTHA UMUERRI ON HER EMERGENCE AS PROVOST, COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES, DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY, ABRAKA

History was made at the College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka, with the emergence of Prof. Ejiroghene Martha Umuerri as Provost, shattering a longstanding glass ceiling as the first woman to occupy that office. For the Delsu Medical School Alumni Association (DUMSAA), the news was received with immense joy, boundless pride, and a deep sense of shared triumph.

DUMSAA, under the dynamic leadership of its President, Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu, has extended its heartiest felicitations to Prof. Umuerri on this landmark achievement, describing her emergence as both a personal victory and a historic moment for women in academic leadership in Delta State and across Nigeria.

Prof. Umuerri is no stranger to DUMSAA. The association counts her among its most distinguished Honorary Members, and her election to the provostship now confers on her the additional honour of statutory Patron of DUMSAA, a role the association believes she will grace with the same distinction that has characterised her entire career. Her bond with the association was further deepened when she accepted the invitation to serve as Eminent Guest Speaker at DUMSAA's 2025 Virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM), an occasion on which she demonstrated the depth of her scholarship, the breadth of her vision, and the warmth of her commitment to the ideals of medical education and alumni fellowship.

That address, delivered to an audience of medical professionals and alumni gathered virtually from across the globe, is now seen in retrospect as a fitting prelude to her historic appointment.

Those who were present recall a speaker who commanded the virtual space with authority, insight, and an unmistakable sense of purpose.

Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu, President of DUMSAA, captured the mood of the association in his remarks:
"Prof. Umuerri's emergence as the first female Provost of the College of Health Sciences is a defining moment, not just for her, but for all of us who believe that excellence, when pursued with integrity and dedication, must ultimately prevail.

"I recall vividly the privilege of hosting her as our Esteemed Guest Speaker at our 2025 Virtual AGM. She spoke then with the clarity and conviction of a leader whose time had come. Today, that time has arrived in full measure.

"DUMSAA is proud, deeply proud, and we pledge our unwavering support and goodwill as she embarks on this great journey.

"To Prof. Umuerri, we say: the College of Health Sciences is in the best of hands, and history will be kind to you."

As Prof. Umuerri assumes the mantle of Provost, DUMSAA looks forward with great anticipation to the transformative chapter her leadership will open for the College of Health Sciences and for Delta State University as a whole. The association wishes her a tenure marked by progress, unity, and enduring impact.

Congratulations, Prof. Ejiroghene Martha Umuerri. You are our pride, and your victory belongs to us all.

Signed:
Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu
