Kogi Deputy Governor Bags Prestigious Ogah-Achadu Oko Attah Title in Igala Kingdom
The Palace of the Traditional Prime Minister of Igala Kingdom, Achadu Oko Attah, was on Saturday agog with dignitaries as the Kogi Deputy Governor, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu, was conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Ogah-Achadu Oko Attah.
The ceremony, held at the palace of His Royal Highness, Alih Yusuf Ameh Adaji III in Idah, coincided with the third anniversary of the Achadu Oko Attah on the throne and drew political leaders, party supporters, royal fathers, religious leaders, and well-wishers from across the state.
The honour, according to the traditional ruler, was in recognition of the deputy governor’s contributions to his people and his commitment to the development of the clan and Kogi State at large.
Describing the conferment as a mark of appreciation, the Achadu Oko Attah, said the title reflected the clan’s pride in Salifu as a worthy son of Igala land.
In his response, the deputy governor expressed gratitude to the traditional institution, his clan, family, friends and supporters for the honour.
He pledged to continue working for peace, unity and development among the people.
Salifu also acknowledged the role of his principal, the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, saying the governor’s confidence in him had opened doors for more recognition and service.
“I must thank him immensely. He was the one that recognised me before we started getting all these awards and recognitions.
"On January 29 this year, I was in Abuja where I received the Best Deputy Governor Award for 2025 in Nigeria,” he said.
The deputy governor further appreciated the immediate past Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, whom he described as the architect of his political journey.
He noted that despite the heavy downpour and the short notice of less than 12 hours, a mammoth crowd turned out to witness the occasion.
“This acceptance is an encouragement to me to buckle up.
"By the special grace of God, I have a governor with listening ears who is ready to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots. I am also ready,” Salifu added.
Dignitaries at the event included former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Chief Edward David Onoja; National Leader of Ukomu Igala Organisation, Major General James Alilu Ataguba (Rtd); other prominent Igala sons and daughters, government officials, and traditional rulers.
The ceremony formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of HRH Alih Yusuf Ameh Adaji III on the throne of Achadu Oko Attah.
